Gehlen Catholic’s Preschool is Growing!
In order to provide educational opportunities for more 4 year olds,
Gehlen Catholic Preschool offers families three opportunities from
which to choose:
1. Full Day:
12.5 hours of free preschool weekly funded by the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program
+ 2.5 hours weekly of Preschool Plus (includes religious instruction) for a small tuition fee *
+ Extended Preschool/Daycare(20 hours weekly) for a daycare fee*
Hours: 8:30-3:20 daily following the school calendar
2. Half Day:
12.5 hours of free preschool weekly funded by the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program
+2.5 hours weekly of Preschool Plus (includes religious instruction) for a small tuition fee*
Hours: 8:30-11:30 daily following the school calendar
3. Statewide Voluntary Preschool:
12.5 hours of free preschool weekly funded by the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program
Hours: 8:30-11:00 am daily following the school calendar
Preschoolers may arrive any time between 8:00 and 8:25 a.m. daily.
*Gehlen Catholic's preschool welcomes children of all faiths who will be 4 years old by September 15th of the year in which they are enrolled in.
*Financial assistance available to qualifying families.

“It’s harder for bigger families like ours who have 4 children & drive 22 miles round trip to send our children to school in Le Mars to provide them a great education!” said Lisa, a preschool parent and teacher.
She and her husband wanted their 4-year old daughter to attend Gehlen Catholic’s Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC), a 5 day/week, full day preschool, so she would have all the resources to be successful. At the end of the 1st quarter, Sophia writes all the letters in the alphabet & knows all of her letter sounds. She counts consistently up to 12, recognizes her shapes, & can independently take care of all of her self-help skills. Sophia went from not knowing anyone to calling her classmates to now calling each one of them by their first names. “Sophia’s bloomed socially! She loves coming to school!
Lisa concluded, “Thanks to the Le Mars United Way, it makes it easier for us it gives our 4 children to have the best education! We don’t want them to miss out on all the resources needed in today’s world. If children don’t have good experiences in school, they won’t love school as they get older. As a parent & educator, it is important for every child to get the best school experience so they can succeed throughout their life!”
“The Le Mars United Way (LM UW) helped my daughter get a better start to her life & schooling!” Patricia, a single mom, exclaimed.
Faith, a 4-year old with 2 big brothers, played independently at home. Thanks to the LM UW, Patricia enrolled Faith in the Gehlen Catholic Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) 5 full days/week.
Patricia said, “The teachers have exceeded my expectations! Faith counts a lot, writes her name, identifies her shapes, buttons & unbuttons her blouses independently, & more.” Thanks to the individualized attention, the teachers have identified Faith’s learning challenges which were not as easily recognizable by Patricia or her in-home daycare provider.
“Had it not been for the LM UW, Faith would have attended preschool only half days. Faith would not be getting the extra help she needs to be successful in school. Thank you, LM UW! Thank you, Gehlen Catholic!” a grateful Patricia stated.
